
Aissata Traore

Aissata Traore was awarded an individual educational scholarship in 2009. She was on target to graduate from École
Technique Saint Joseph (St. Joseph Technical School), Mopti, Mali (western Africa) in July, 2010. We are sad to report that she died
unexpectedly at her family home in Segou on May 17, 2010 after a short illness. In her memory and honor we will announce,
on September 30, 2010, the 2011 Aissata Traore Memorial Scholarship. Applications for this special scholarship will
be open to young, indigenous women from western Africa. Further details will be given in the official announcement.

Mana, a Mien Scholar, high school graduate and college student

In 2006 Mana wrote: "I have two sisters and two brothers. My parents are gardeners who grow tomatoes and corn.
They earn $132 per year. My village school only teaches to Grade Nine."
Because of our donors Mana has now completed her High School education at Chiang Mai Adventist Academy
in northern Thailand. She graduated in March, 2009 with a Grade Point Average of 3.37, placing her third
in her class of 37 students. She has now begun college, majoring in English.

Ketsarin, a Lisu Scholar, high school graduate and college student

In 2007 Ketsarin wrote: "My parents have a garden. They make between $300 and $470 per year. My mother
has stomach and throat problems which cause her to have to go to the doctor quite often."
Because of our donors Ketsarin has now completed her High School education at Chiang Mai Adventist Academy
in northern Thailand. She graduated in March, 2008 with a Grade Point Average of 3.63, placing her third
in her class of 29 students. She has now begun college.

Narawat, a H'mong Scholar, high school graduate and college student
|
In 2007 Narawat wrote: "I am the second of four children in our family. My brother helps our parents in the garden."
Because of our donors Narawat has now completed her High School education at Chiang Mai Adventist Academy
in northern Thailand. She graduated in March, 2008 with a Grade Point Average of 3.47, placing her sixth
in her class of 33 students. She has now begun college.

In 2006 we awarded a scholarship to a Mien girl in Thailand.
Our scholarship allowed her to finish her English studies and she is now an English teacher in poor, rural areas of northern Thailand.

In 2005 we awarded two scholarships to Quichua students in the
Ecuadorian Amazon region. These scholarships allowed these students to continue their education
and contribute to local community projects that continue to benefit the Quichua community.

In 2004 we awarded five scholarships to Aeta children in the Philippines.
These scholarships allowed these five students to continue their High School education.
