The first part of our mission is to provide education for indigenous peoples. In 2011 we awarded a new educational scholarship to a young Tuareg woman from Mali, western Africa under the 2011 Aissata Traore Memorial Scholarship.

Aissata Traore was awarded one of our individual educational scholarships in 2009. She progressed well in her studies and was on target to graduate from École Technique Saint Joseph (St. Joseph Technical School), Mopti, Mali (western Africa) in July, 2010. She died unexpectedly at her family home in Segou on May 17, 2010 after a short illness.

In the brief time that we spent corresponding with her and with the people who helped her to apply for her educational scholarship we came to know a humble, humanitarian person who wanted to use her rare educational opportunity to benefitt her people. In her memory and in her honor we announced the 2011 Aissata Traore Memorial Scholarship.
