Mexico

Our current assignments include documentation of Mayan peoples in Mesoamerica. Our documentation of Lacandon people - from November 2007 - is previewed below.

Life is slow in a Lacandon village.
A young Lacandon girl learns from her mother how to carry a bag.
Lacandon primary school children enjoy their recess.
El pollo perido. These Lacandon women had lost their chicken so we waited until they found it before driving them and their chicken to their village.
With a high rate of illiteracy among Mexico's indigenous population, this library in a Lacandon village probably gets little use. In fact it was closed when we were there.
Most houses in this Lacandon village are old...
... But more modern construction is employed these days...
... The village is even connected to the Internet now.
